Picenelli (Covim): "Distribution can recognize the increases"

It is now known that Coffee market situation: the constant price fluctuations, an unfavorable and uncertain climate trend, the various critical issues traceable in the workforce and last but not least, speculation, have meant that the raw material has been characterized by continuous precariousness for too long now.

Coffee roasters have long been trying to spread awareness, especially among retailers, about the problems surrounding the market, especially the Robusta variety, whose prices are constantly growing.

“In February 2024, the growth of the Robusta variety was 19%, while in the last year it marked almost +75% – I announce Daniele Carlo Picenelli, sales manager for Italy on the GDO, Discount and PL channels of Covim Caffè – We find ourselves in an extremely complicated market where even deforestation and the certification of stocks mean that in the short term there are no price reductions”.

On the contrary: prices continue to grow exponentially, and the geopolitical situation has a negative impact, forcing roasters to request Retail price increases.

"We trust that Distribution can recognize the increases, so that a certain linearity can be re-established within the companies. This is a generalized situation, which involves all the roasters", is Picenelli's appeal to retailers.

However, the difficulties with the raw material do not stop Covim Caffè: identifying market trends and bringing them to the shelves new products that meet demand remains a crucial element of the Genoese roasting company's strategy. Focus also on research & development for packaging and wrapping, both in terms of recyclable materials and packaging, and in terms of innovations that Covim will soon present to the market.

Covim Caffè, in addition to being a historic private label supplier for Distribution, it is also present on the shelf with the own brand and recently the identity of the roastery has been subjected to rebranding, welcomed positively by both retailers and consumers.

For the future, Covim has invested to implement the logistics sphere, together with the production area and communication, both B2B and B2C.
