Aldi is inviting UK residents to indicate where they would like to see a new supermarket. The German chain, now the fourth largest in the UK retail sector, has launched a public initiative to gather suggestions on new locations to expand its network.
Anyone can enter by simply emailing the name of their suggested city or area by Sunday 8 June. The most popular areas will be considered as part of the chain's expansion plan, which aims to exceed 1.500 stores in the UK (currently over 1.050).
The initiative aims to consolidate Aldi's presence especially in the South East of England, where new openings are planned in the coming months in Ashford (Kent), Eastbourne (Sussex) and Caterham (Surrey).
“We have always believed that quality food should be accessible to all, and there are still many communities that would benefit from Aldi’s presence,” said Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK. “As well as looking internally at strategic areas, we want to listen to the voice of the people who are driving our growth.”
A similar consultation last year resulted in London, Manchester and Derbyshire being chosen as priority areas. Aldi has already secured planning permission for a new store in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
