Whole Foods Market, a U.S. chain specializing in organic products and controlled by Amazon, is accelerating on the proximity retail front with the expansion of the “Daily Shop” format. The new formula includes smaller stores than traditional Whole Foods supermarkets, but with a premium offering designed for urban consumers.

New York is the city chosen to inaugurate this new phase of development. In the coming months, the chain will open several new “Daily Shop” stores in the metropolis – the first two are already operational – focusing on neighborhoods with high population density and strong pedestrian traffic. The goal is to strengthen its presence in urban contexts by offering fast, quality and sustainable shopping.

The format includes a curated selection of fresh organic products, ready meals, healthy snacks and drinks, with a focus on eco-friendly packaging and solutions for immediate consumption. The initiative is part of a broader Amazon strategy to dominate the grocery sector with agile and high-value-added solutions. According to sources close to the group, the new model could also be extended to other large US cities in the coming years.
